Regarding the case of excessive carcinogens in Zhonglian edible oil, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an today issued four appeals to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the central government, including an immediate announcement of the list. In response, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate for Taipei Mayor Shen Po-yang stated that this is another instance of shifting responsibility, and that edible oil safety should not be a matter of division between central and local authorities. Shen Po-yang, accompanied by DPP Taipei City Councilors Chung Pei-ling and Chen Hsien-wei, visited Cihang Temple in Shilin this morning for blessings, and subsequently canvassed for votes at Shilin Market. Shen Po-yang responded to media inquiries about Chiang Wan-an's four-point appeal posted on Facebook to the central government and the FDA: "Immediately release the list and establish a dedicated zone," "Conduct a comprehensive investigation of upstream suppliers," "Clarify the case details within the shortest possible time," and "Rebuild the source management mechanism."
